The first
language technique used for making this text suitable for the audience is when ‘JKR’
states ‘I'm not going to promise you anything’ when asked about what she’s
doing next. By saying this she is being careful not give anything away as she
knows the audience are the readers and fans of her book. She knows this so she
is very careful not to give anything away. She also states ‘It will honestly be
brilliant’ when talking about the Harry Potter world. As the audience are her
fans, she is promoting the rides by persuading people to go there. As she says it’s
brilliant, her fans will go because her opinion will influence them.
The purpose
of the text is to inform the audience about the Harry Potter books. The first piece
of language used is when she talks about Dumbledore dying. As he is a big part of
the novel, she engages the audience into the interview by talking about him. She
also states ‘3, 6 and 7 were my favourite to write’. By giving her opinion she
is keeping the audience interested to stay on task for the interview. The last
thing she does is talk about what she will do after the Harry Potter series. As
the purpose is to talk about her books, this gives a little more information
about the books themselves.
The presenter
states ‘It’s wonderful to have you on Blue Peter’ with JK Rowling then replying
‘It’s wonderful to be here’. This language links to the context as the first
line introduces her to the audience immediately showing it’s an interview. The presenter
them states ‘We've got loads of questions for you’ which then shows that the
interview is based on questions from the audience.
